GETTING BEYOND GOOD INTENTIONS

“Freedom From Hurry & Worry”
Pastor Doug Heisel – October 27, 2024

Matthew 6:25-27 – (Jesus said) Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 11:29-30 — (Jesus said) Walk with me and work with me

—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me

and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

1. Jesus was highly PRODUCTIVE but was never hurried or worried.

2. Jesus is OFFERING that same outcome to us.

Just then His disciples returned and were surprised to find (Jesus) talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”

Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

Meanwhile His disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” Then His disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought Him food?”

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work. Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest…

Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony…

1. Accept that Jesus has READ/WRITE access to your daily SCHEDULE

Vs 4 — Now (Jesus) had to go through Samaria…

Ephesians 5:15-17 — Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

2. Challenge what DISTRACTS you from SEEING and DOING more of God’s will.

Vs 27 — Why are you talking with her?

Vs 34 — “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work. … I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”

3. Stop chasing EASY. Some of the HARDEST places produce the greatest HARVESTS.

Vs 39 — Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the

woman’s testimony…
